Discret….. non? Subtle… don’t you agree ?

Blog en anglais et français – Blog in English & French.

Here is the Boatshed Banger, resplendent in its new livery, and no, it is not true that the stickers are the only things stopping it falling apart! It may be old and a bit tired but it is a faithful and reliable old thing with no complicated electronic gizmos to fail, no central locking or power steering to worry about, just solid Peugeot reliability. It got to Paris and back last week despite a question about emulsification in the dipstick……

Here are some photos from Paris Boat Show. Many visitors were disappointed with the lack of cruising boats and cruiser racers in the 25-40’ range. Not much new either. The same was true in the dinghy and catamaran sections where many of the new boats we expected to see were simply not there. Things were livelier in the motor boat halls, where the best business was being done. Otherwise, the chandlers and so on were doing well, with people updating kit rather than buying new boats.

Back home on the Rance, I called by the Chantier Naval de la Landriais, long my favourite boatyard in the area – it helps that I live just across the bay. We have several boats for sale wintering in the yard – J/133, Dehler 372, A35, Flyer 8. The yard is full to bursting and they cannot store any more boats ashore for some months. There are even a bunch of boats in cradles on the foreshore in front of the yard as the yard proper is so full. It is great to see the yard doing so well. Owner Denis Campion is a local man who knows his business, not one of those outsiders who arrives with a big fortune to enjoy the boating industry lifestyle! No, he knows his boats, his moorings, and his trade inside out. All the necessary services are available either directly from the professional yard staff, or from reliable subcontractors. Good on them, it is great for us to have such a good yard to turn to.
