Commentaires du Broker
This 22m (66ft) ocean-going yacht has been built without compromises and with the most incredible attention to detail.
While the emphasis lies in safety and comfort, she can be sailed quite comfortably by one person. Indeed, the current owners regularly do but more often with just two of them.
The huge tank capacities, generator, solar panels and the two ways of heating the boat give her an unparalleled independence to be able to spend weeks away from land and be totally self-sufficient.
The boat is laid out with two guest cabins, each with double beds and wash basins at the bow. Both cabins have plenty of storage and natural light thanks to the sky lights. Both cabins are served by a shower and heads.
The spacious living area has 17m+ of book shelves, flag locker, glass and crockery lockers and a soapstone wood heater (additional to the central heating on gas oil) that helps to make this boat usable throughout the year. It really is a great place to spend time and the chart table in the corner is also plenty big enough to plan the long journeys this boat is very capable of.
In the corridor to the aft cabin there is a Miele washing machine and dryer. The aft cabin itself is as big as you would imagine on a yacht of this quality and the bed measures 2m x 2m and an en suite bathroom. There is also a safe installed.
Above this cabin is the wheelhouse with large dining area for eight persons, a sea berth, and a half-gimbaled seat for the helmsman. A brilliant innovation. Because the front windows are on a positive angle, they stay free of spray (there are also windscreen wipers).
The galley is set down a few steps ahead of the wheelhouse and is well equipped and designed again for long trips with plenty of storage and simple, reliable appliances. The cooker has a roll over protection and a safety support for the cook during bad weather.
Safety has been considered at every step in the design of this boat and there are bulwarks around the deck, three metal doors in wheelhouse protect against burglary and laminated safety glass. All opening windows have security bars as does the big skylight. Escape hatches can be opened in two directions but only from inside. Over compensated anchor equipment: 140 lbs CQR x 2 with 80m chain and Pool stern anchor in the aft locker.
The hull is extremely strong (8mm) and overlapping, the whole mid section between the watertight bulkheads has no skin fittings under the waterline. Keel sole is 20 mm. (in the bow up to the waterline) sides of keel are 15 mm. Hull is 8 mm overlapping, frames are 10 mm
Collision bulkhead in front and two in stern of boat bowsprit does not need a water stay and has 2 giant rolls for double anchors
On deck there is an outside steering position in front of wheelhouse with comfortable full size bench. There is also space on deck for two 11 foot dinghy's each with their own davit.
The Cummins 160HP engine has a complete closed cooling system. Fuel tanks vents are positioned so that no seawater can ever enter. The huge fuel capacity means you can easily cross the Atlantic in one hit. Full speed is 9 knots depending on circumstances. Maneuverability is great thanks to the powerful bowthruster and great rudder angle. Easy access through the side doors in the wheelhouse next to the steering position with mooring gear right there means one person can get through a lock on their own.
The rig is also designed to be operated by one person with the hydraulic aids. Two booms for down wind sailing on fixed hinges. Although while speed was never the priority, she sails amazingly well because of her long waterline and sharp S bow and stern under the waterline, this is contrary to older transformed fishing vessels who have much more displacement; with ideal conditions one can reach 10 knots.
Setting it apart from every other boat on the market is the special features deliberately built in to make this boat usable all over the world. She has a 64' mast height so that she can navigate the ICW of the USA as well as the French canal network. The keel is also designed to allow this boat to ground without support.
Throughout this boat, there are little touches that make you wonder why they aren't standard on every boat. Things like being able to control the bowthruster with your feet so you can keep your hands on the wheel is pure innovation from the owner and common sense design. It is truly unique in its conception and execution and would make the ideal vessel for a family or couple to explore the world. Something the current owners have done for 22 years and the boat has never let them down.
