Engine room access on the Amel Maramu is through the floor of the center cockpit. It's easy to work on as you get to stand up! Just lift up the floor of the cockpit and step down. Plus this location keeps the heat of the engine out of the interior cabins when traveling to tropical locations. The engine was rebuilt top end at about 6500 hours. Injector pump and injectors rebuilt 2016. Maintenance has been thoughtful and constant on this engine. Engine room is very clean with all features and systems seeing constant oversight. There is no deferred maintenance evident on the systems aboard this vessel.

Electric Pro-Furl headsail with two tracks, 2016 survey and seller notes the following; Mainsail condition, serviceable, #1 Genoa: 170% Dacron, Lee Sails of Malaysia, like new, #2 Jib 135% Dacron by Doyle sails, condition good, re-stitched May 2016, Mizzen sail: Dacron unknown manufacturer, condition good, Storm jib Dacron unknown manufacturer, condition good, Cruising spinnaker not seen by surveyor.

This vessel is also equipped with the unique Amel standard two headsail poles to be used for down wind sailing. Similar to whisker poles but much more robust with a well thought out attachment system.

The furling main sail system is Pro-Furl and was added to the boat by the original owner in 1994. The same for the electric motor on the Pro-Furl head sail. It was added in 1994 then that motor was replaced with a new motor in 2016.

The Amel Maramu Ketch is a center cockpit vessel with somewhat high freeboard making it a very safe ocean cruising ketch. Long fin keel with 8,800 lbs of ballast, total weight empty 23,150, loaded weight approx. 28,440. This vessel underwent a peel and epoxy barrier job on the bottom in 2012. The hull has been painted. Decks are Balsa cored with 4 very small professional repairs done after the September 2016 survey. Rudder is skeg hung. Interior bulkheads, both anchor locker and forward cabin have gaskets and are water tight with doors for safety. Deck lockers on either side of the windlass are huge with room to store a folding bicycle and or wind sail surf board masts. Decks appear as teak but are fiberglass and factory painted to look like wood. Wide side decks with stainless tube hand rails, mast shrouds mounted to chain plates on the gunnels make the side decks safe and roomy to walk around on.

All Amels, since 1967, have been built with Amel designed biaxial fiberglass cloth. This is a flat woven fiberglass cloth that is much stronger in sheer and tension than conventional mat and woven roving laminates. The hull is molded in one piece incorporating one piece/non-spliced lengths of biaxial cloth running from bulwark, down through the keel/centerline, and up to the opposite bulwark. In the same fashion the next series of laminates run from the bow lengthwise to the stern, again, employing one piece/non-spliced length of biaxial cloth. The deck assembly is built in a similar fashion. While the hull is a solid fiberglass laminate with no core, the deck assembly employs a core of vertical end grain balsa in strategic horizontal areas to enhance stiffness and is insulation from heat and noise. There are also substrates of “Iron Wood” in the deck assembly where cleats and the windlass are installed to easily accommodate the increased compression and shearing loads in the foredeck.
After all the structural assemblies are completely installed, the separately completed deck assembly is joined to the hull, (again, while it is still in the mold) with six layers of the same biaxial cloth used in the primary lamination, around the entire hull to deck interface. What is accomplished, effectively, is the elimination of a conventional hull to deck joint. The hull and deck are married with a homogeneous fiberglass matrix, which insures a strong and lee free hull and deck join for the entire life of the vessel. All 1000 liters/264 gallons of fresh water are carried in the stub keel, not only providing a double bottom but keeping the weight of the water quite low in the boat and not in tanks under settees. The propeller extends from a secondary fin aft of the keel. The rudder is hung from a massive full-length skeg assembly that can support the entire stern laden weight of the vessel in case of grounding. As in all elements of the entire vessel’s design, the hull and deck were conceived to do their job properly and efficiently and not to have a certain look or to make a fashion statement. In cruising yacht design, as in nature, the most satisfactory results are achieved when form follows function.

Capacities and measurements are not independently verified by Waterline Boats / Boatshed and are taken from owners' information and/or literature.

A well-lit aft master cabin has large double berth with ample storage and hanging locker space. It has its own ensuite head. There is a vanity with mirror and chair. This is accessed by a starboard side companionway from the salon. Along the outside of this companionway is the one large fuel tank with four access ports above. It's finished so you don't see the tank but access for cleaning or examination is super easy. The center cockpit design allows for a spacious aft cabin, galley to port with separate fridge and freezer, all the components of a well equipped galley. A very large table sits center with one side folding out. Under which is enough storage for wine bottles (and other provisions) you could stock it for a world circumnavigation and never have to buy another before getting back home. Storage throughout the boat is enormous. Another head forward to port and a large "V" berth cabin up front make this boat very roomy. The seller reports the microwave and the stereo are not functioning.

Commentaires du Broker

Few boats are actually "turn key" ready to take you around the world. This one has returned from that adventure and appears as "ready to go again". Amel Maramu boats are widely respected as Ocean Cruising Yachts although not well known here in the States. The ketch rig makes for easy handling plus the sail trim can be managed for the most part from the security of the deep, center cockpit. This boat very recently came from Hawaii to Sitka, Alaska then here to Seattle after nearly circumnavigating the globe having started in Florida. Many recent upgrades including new rigging and constant care and maintenance make this lovely boat a great choice if you've got an itch to see the world. The seller reports after 24 years of loving and caring ownership he has replaced, repaired and renewed systems and features on this vessel having spent over $21,000 just since May 2016.

Here is a YouTube link to another Amel Maramu crossing the Atlantic. Clearly, this is a very capable Ocean Cruising Yacht. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKkmvoQbnOI

I asked the seller to share with me his reasoning initially purchased the Amel. The following is an excerpt from that reply;

"As we neared the end of our extensive search for the 'perfect cruising yacht', one major factor kept popping into our heads. Which one of these boats would get us around the world the safest? And hands down it became clear that it was the Amel. In a seaway with all of the hand holds and deep cockpit, water tight doors, ketch rig {smaller and easier-to-handle sails} stainless steel lifelines, hard dodger where most of the sail trim can be handled from the security of the cockpit, we no longer felt anything on the market compared. For practicality the Amel really is unsurpassed!"
