Constructed of 5086 alloy aluminum. The hull is a round-bilged design with a heavy large fin keel. The overall displacement of the vessel is 32,000 lbs, with 12,000 lbs in the keel. Sturdy construction -- the keel will fully support the entire vessel. Skeg-hung rudder.
Built by Carija Yachtbuilders of Merillville, Indiana for long distance crewed racing on the Great Lakes.
Well-insulated with styrofoam between all frames. Hull and superstructure are designed to prevent water intrusion. This boat is exceptionally dry and and the seller reports that it is not subject to interior condensation. All interior panels are removable with a screwdriver and the styrofoam can be removed for hull interior inspection.
The boat was hauled April 2010, her bottom sanded, and two coats of Pettit Vivid bottom paint applied.
The hull from the deck down to the bottom of the keel is faired with epoxy fairing compound ranging from approximately 1/8" to 1/4" inch thickness. Interlux 417A plus 418B was used and hand-faired. Then four coats of Interprotect 2000E epoxy barrier paint was applied over the fairing compount. The hull above the waterline (black) is International Brightside urethane rolled/brushed on.
The seller has owned this boat for 32 years -- it has been cared for and maintained with devotion.

Commentaires du Broker
This sturdy Carija 43 Aluminum Sloop was built to compete in the prestigious 333 mile Chicago-Mackinac race -- the world's longest freshwater race -- and was constructed by a yachtbuilder specializing in aluminum. She features accommodations for a large crew, a very stout rig, a newer mainsail, a beautiful new dodger and a newer diesel engine with low hours.
The interior is roomy and well-lit. The owner reports that she is a very dry and warm boat, well-prepared for comfortable cruising in all weather. He purchased her for her offshore capabilities, and it's easy to see that this boat could allow her new owners to voyage anywhere safely. With a slender profile and a large, heavy fin keel she's a fast, stiff vessel that sails well to wind. This boat should be considered by anyone looking to go offshore with the integrity and strength of a real metal ship under sail.
