The engine was built before 1989 but was crated and in the manufacturers wrapping until commissioned in 1989. It is fitted with a 2:1 reduction gearbox.
The engine bearers and available space will suit a Nanni 29 hp if so desired. With the 1 1/4" stainless steel shaft the prop size can be increased to 18" as it is strong enough and the space is available.

Heavily laid up grp hull with a cast iron keel fastened to the hull with steel keel studs and fastening nuts. Hull was epoxied from new below the waterline. The deck is two layers of 3/8" marine ply, laminated and fastened over laminated, mahogany deck beams. This is fully epoxy resin and glass matting sheathed topped with deck paint. This forms a very practical, long lasting and low maintenance deck. The deck design gives good side deck width and a great working foredeck.
Alan Pape, the designer, has taken the well liked double ender Colin Archer design and adapted it for grp construction. This gives an increased ballast ratio for better sailing performance.
The rudder is hung on the stern post.
The hull is very deep giving adequate headroom forward without the need for a coachroof, again, adding to the strength of the hull.
The hull only was professionally built by Skentlebery and remaineder was completed by the owner to a very high standard. Particular attention was given to the stanchion mounts, through deck fastenings and the bulwark coping.

This Saltram 36 is a superb and rare find. She is an exceptional long distance cruising yacht. There is nothing fancy or flimsy about her, just a great solid, well built yacht.
The fit out is a credit to the owner, who purchased the hull from new form Skentlebery and completed the high quality fit out himself. Everything is very substantial with added aim of minimal maintenance.
I'm sure many will question the enqine choice and size but it is a low revving, high torque motor swinging a large diameter prop and seems pefectly adequate.
With its new sails, this boat is ready to go. She would make a perfect yacht for a couple but can be easily handled single handed.
I think the double ended design and the flat decks give her real style.
