The 80 HP Perkins four cylinder diesel engine dates from 1985 but was new and unused when installed in this boat and was first operated in 1995. The engine drives through a Hurth HBW 250 reversing gear with a Aquadrive model 14100 coupling to a 1.375 inch shaft with a Strong "dripless" shaft seal. Engine cooling is provided by a keel cooler integral with the hull. The engine is fitted with a 120 amp alternator. Everything in the engine compartment is clean and well laid out. All systems are easy to access through overhead hatches in the saloon floor (and the large saloon skylight) as well as an aft hatch under the aft cabin stair.

Primary fuel filters are dual Racors.

There are two engine starting batteries and seven "house" batteries. All are "gel" type. A Heart Interface 1800 inverter-battery charger maintains the batteries and provides AC power.

The shore power system is protected by an isolation transformer.

The water heater can be heated by the engine cooling system or AC shore power. The cabin heating is provided by a new Wallace 40D diesel furnace system.

This is a motor sailer with the emphasis on motoring. However, it is equipped with a rather tall sloop rig with sheets and winches arranged for easy sail handling including a roller furling jib. After initial testing the mainsail and boom were shortened to better balance the rig which started out with substantial weather helm.

The Spar Tec mast is equipped with an extra track for a storm sail. Standing rigging is Norseman stainless cable. The jib is on a Furlex system. The mainsail rides on Harken cars and is equipped with lazy-jacks.

There are two #50 Lewmar sheet winches, two #40 halyard winches on the mast and a #16 main sheet winch on the cabin top.

The hull was professionally fabricated of welded steel by Electro Marine of Port Credit, Toronto, Canada to a design by the late Charles Wittholz, a prolific designer of sail and power yachts. The hull is built of relatively heavy gauge steel for strength and durability. The cabin top, deck and hull sides above the chine are 10 gauge (0.1345"). The chine is 1/2" rod. The hull below the chine is 8 gauge (0.1644"). The keel sides are 1/4" and the keel bottom is 1/2". Interior ballast consists of 5,000 pounds of lead. The entire interior surface of the hull is coated with urethane foam for insulation and to prevent condensation. The bilge spaces of this boat are bone dry and appear to have never seen water of any kind.

When first launched in 1995, the survey estimated a market value of $233,000 and a replacement value of $300,000. The present condition is fairly described as essentially "as new".

The metal work is done to a very high standard and the fabrication of the hull is remarkable for the beautifully shaped hull curves, especially at the stern and bow.

The hull design features a long, straight keel and large, streamlined rudder with a well protected, four blade stainless steel propeller.

The interior structure is based on steel framing with marine plywood bulkheads and floors. The interior steel framing is completely finished with Americote 235 epoxy paint. The interior surfaces are finished in African mahogany, Alaska yellow cedar, maple, wenge and bubinga.

The exterior of the hull is finished in Awlgrip and Pettit paints and the underside is finished with Americoat 235 epoxy and Americoat 214 bottom paint.

There are two helm stations. One inside and one on the aft deck. Steering is by Whitlock "Mamba" rod and gear system which provides positive, low friction steering with no play.

There are two large holding tanks. A 42 gallon "gray water" tank holds water from the sink drain, shower and a drain from the anchor chain locker. A second 42 gallon "black water" holding tank holds water from the forward head. The aft head is equipped with a SanX Sanitation system with its own 6 gallon holding tank.

The entire main salon is enclosed in large, Lexan windows provided with white curtains and which provide a bright open space with outstanding views in all directions. The main saloon walls and overhead are wood planking painted gloss white with varnished hardwood trim in the fashion favored by Herreshoff. The craftsmanship and design of the interior are top quality throughout. Located over the engine compartment is a large, removable skylight which allows easy removal and replacement of the engine or other engine compartment components.

The main salon is equipped with an Alpine CD changer stereo system with Bose speakers and sub woofer.

The interior helm station is centrally located at the forward end of the main salon. A stair to port and down leads to the lower galley area with a built in refrigeration box, two stainless steel sinks and a sliding, gimballed Force 10 stove/oven fueled with propane. An Isotherm 4000 air cooled refrigeration system cools the built in refrigerator.

Through a door to starboard is the forward head. Through a door forward is the bow compartment with a large "V" berth and numerous built in drawers and lockers. All berths feature custom six inch thick mattresses.

The floors throughout the interior are varnished hardwood in a classic pattern of dark wood separated by narrow, light colored strips which is reversed in the salon floor as light colored wood separated by narrow strips of darker wood.

From the main salon aft and down stairs is the aft cabin with a large double berth to port. The aft head is through a door to starboard. The aft head is equipped with a SanX SX12T sanitation system with its own 6 gallon holding tank. The aft steering mechanism is exposed by a locker door located centrally on the forward bulkhead.

Each compartment is provided with ample windows and skylights to take advantage of daylight. Built in storage is worked into every available space and hatches in the floors provide access to further storage areas below deck.

Commentaires du Broker

This is an outstanding custom-built 39 foot steel motor sailer designed by Charles Wittholz, with a professionally-built hull. The interior design and finish are top quality resulting in a very attractive and functional cruiser ideally suited for the inland waters of the Northwest. The current owners spent five years completing the boat and have maintained it in top condition so that today it appears in essentially new condition. It is being offered at considerably less than half of the replacement cost.
