Engine hours indicated are not known with certainty to be actual hours. Seller also reports that the cabin forced air heating system does not function but that the Dickinson Diesel has proven to be more than adequate. The reverse osmosis chamber of the AquaGen system is not yet installed as that should be done just prior to departure on an offshore trip due to the maintenance requirements. The 12 V generator portion however is now operational -- it charges batteries directly via the Kubota diesel with belt-driven alternator.

The masts were removed at the time of the re-rigging. They were inspected, detailed and re-painted at that time.

There are many advantages in choosing a Staysail Ketch Rig. As is obvious, the sail area is broken up into four tri-angles from the tip of the bow sprit to the transom. The center of effort of the combined sails is relatively low in the rigging which is a real advantage in managing heavy weather. These four separate sails provide many options for adjusting to heavy weather condition. One can drop the main and continue to sail with mizzen and Jib in perfect balance. For down wind sailing one drops the mizzen to get it out of the way of the wind for the main. For extreme down wind, drop the main and sail wing on wing with the staysail and Jib. Also at anchor set the mizzen to keep the boat head to wind. One can readily see why the versatility of the ketch rig is so popular with long distance offshore cruisers.

Bill Garden's Vagabond 47s were built from 1970 to 1982 and the solid heavy fiberglass hulls were said to be able to plough through a coral reef w/o hull damage. The seller reports that there are no blisters on this hull.

2008 Electrasan sanitation system.

The reason for the extensive upgrade history is that these owners were preparing for offshore travel and have now changed their plans. It is my opinion that this boat is now (with the exception of personal selection of safety equipment) structurally and mechanically ready for offshore travel.

In 2013 the deck seams were reefed and professionally re-caulked and the seller reports that the previous owner never had sanded the decks so a current exam will show decks with very little wear. They appear to be in excellent condition. There are no deck leaks and also there are no blister on the hull.

The mahogany interior is in original condition with rich deep relief carvings in two of the overhead cross beams. White leather upholstery and the overhead hatches provide a strong contrast to the rich wood tones. All the way forward is a double cabin with a head and shower to port, a hanging locker to starboard. Next aft is the saloon with wood cabinets and counter tops on the front bulkheads. Followed by an L-shaped settee that converts to a double berth to starboard and a single settee on the port. Further aft is the area in front of the companionway that has 6' 3" of headroom. To starboard is the chart-navigation station and the entrance to a shop work bench and access to the engine room. On the port is the galley with counters on both sides with stainless steel sink, micro wave, standup Norcold refrigerator with freezer that operates on 12 and 110 volts. There is a three burner LPG stove with oven. There is plenty of storage above and below the counters. Aft of the galley is the master state room with a double bed, transom windows and an ensuite head and shower. Both heads have marble counters.

From the clipper bow to the aft cabin transom windows this Vagabond Staysail Ketch shows the owner's skill and pride of ownership. Since 2008 this vessel has been undergoing upgrades to all systems to make her cruise ready for all seas. At first sight of the varnished teak toerail, fresh white paint on cabin sides and spars, the bronze port lights, recent teak deck steams re-caulked and the fresh matching sail covers and cockpit enclosure shows the owner's attention to detail.

Commentaires du Broker

The Vagabond 47 is William Garden's popular concept of a comfortable, capable, safe world traveler. This particular vessel has been extensively up graded with current improvements to be ready for off-shore travel right now. This big powerful staysail ketch awaits your inspection. You will not be disappointed -- from the first impression it will be obvious that this owner has paid good attention to detail.

As the owners are live aboard they ask for several days' notice before showings to pre-qualified buyers. Call Dave to make your appointment.
