Owner appears to have maintained engine very well and is up to date with servicing. The owner has had The modification to the gearbox splines carried out by DB marine, this was a recommended mod for all 2003 volvo engines. He has found the engine to be very reliable indeed.
He has made the modification to the exhaust system too. The exhaust mod is basically the fitting of a Vetus water lock in the exhaust system and re routing the exhaust to exit from the side of the boat rather than the stern. The original system did not have a water lock, this caused problems when sailing as it allowed water to run back up the exhaust and into the engine.

This magnificent Westerly Corsair 36, Sail no. CS 84 is a fine ocean going sailing boat. Ed Dubois always had a flare for designing good tempered vessels with the perfect combination of good stability, speed and handling with high volume below decks. The Corsair comes complete with a full Lloyds Construction Certificate. GRP hull with cast iron keel of moderate length and draft, attached by marine grade stainless steel bolts to Lloyds recommendation. The wheel steering is light and positive with cables connected to a quadrant on the rudder stock. The rudder is a partly balanced spade moulded onto a solid stainless steel stock. She is currently out of the water for the next few weeks being antifouled.

The interior is amazing and an absolute credit to her owner of 16 years. The woodwork and joinery are beautifully maintained and the current owner has also enhanced the finish to make this the best example of a Corsair that I have seen. The feeling of space and comfort and the craftsmanship is abundant. The generous use of teak, high quality fabrics and teak strip cabin sole adds to the air of luxury. The aft cabin has a custom made double bed with headboard, making it the same size of a normal double bed. The storage volume is massive and the owner has customised the pilot berth (would be the 8th berth) into a sensible stowage area with passage making in mind.

Wide side decks. Deck fittings and hardware are ergonomically sited and safety has been a major consideration in the positioning of the handrails, double lifelines and stainless steel bow and stern rails. The self-draining cockpit is deep and comfortable and provides a safe work area. There is a cavernous sail locker below the portside cockpit seat with ample space for cruising gear and sails. There is also an access panel to the engine.

This is a fabulous Westerly Corsair and she is an absolute credit to her owner of 16 years. Ed Dubois took Westerly boats to a new level and the Corsair is a flagship vessel. Light on the helm but utterly responsive an all round practical and aesthetically pleasing sailing boat. She has the ultimate blend of performance and comfort. All the Westerly boat owners that I have met aspire to owning a Westerly Corsair. There are so many reasons why. Fine lines, excellent displacement, a great rig, cavernous accommodation and quality finish outside and in. There is masses of stowage, fine teak, comfortable accommodation and an airy feel inside. The cockpit is spacious and safe and the helmsman's view is unimpaired. The crew can safely stride around the uncluttered deck and there is plenty of space for sunbathing and enjoying a drink to toast the sunset.
This Corsair has had been in the capable hands of a very competent owner who has loved and appreciated his vessel for 16 years. It will not be the happiest day of his life when he parts company with this lovely sailing boat so hopefully the next owner will be as passionate about this lovely Westerly Corsair as he has been.
