This boat was built by the Grandy boat yard in Seattle. The original purpose was for the military and was built to its specifications. Construction is plank on frame. The planks are of 5/4" cedar on steam-bent oak frames. The hull has been re-fastened with bronze and galvanized screws. We have photos of fasteners that were removed for inspection during a survey in 2013 and they show no wasting.

The upper deck has a Grandy-built lapstrake dinghy and davit. There is an upper helm with windshield and on the aft end of the upper deck are the steps to the aft cockpit.

The seller's personal items are not included in this sale.

Tank capacities and other measurements are not independently verified by Waterline Boats / Boatshed and are reported from the seller's information and/or literature.

Entering from the cockpit into the aft cabin there are upper and lower large bunks port and starboard. The upper bunks swing down to make for two large settees. Just forward of the bunks on each side are vertical lockers. Going forward into the galley and dining area there is a u-shaped stainless steel counter, diesel cook stove with oven, sink, and very large size refrigerator. The owner uses a small single burner portable butane on top of the diesel stove for light cooking. The galley was originally designed to be large enough to store food to feed eight people for eight days. The dining area is to port. Forward to port is a small head with wash basin. Forward and up two steps is the pilot house with access doors port and starboard to the side decks. There is access also to the upper deck on the aft port side. Across the back and to starboard is a very nice raised settee with storage under. A feature of this settee is that by turning over the seat cover it converts to a buffet table for serving a large group of guests. The helm is to port. Forward and down two steps and we are in the forward double cabin. To starboard is a counter with storage under. To port is the head with a large shower enclosure. It is reported that the shower has an extension so it may be deployed out the port window for use on the deck or the dock.

Currently the refrigeration is in need of attention to the refrigerant and the thermostat. The compressor works fine but needs to be re-charged.

Commentaires du Broker

This 50' Monk Bridge Deck Cruiser was built for the military as an eight man coastal patrol boat for use during WWII. After the war It was sold as military surplus and ended up in the inventory of the Foss Tug and Barge company and was slightly modified for pleasure use. The original gas engines were removed and in 1968 the Detroit Diesels, 4-53's, were installed. The current owners have owned this vessel for 16 years and during their time many structural and mechanical issues were addressed. The transmissions and v-drives have been either rebuilt or replaced. Custom stainless steel exhaust elbows have been installed. New leather upholstery and headliner and custom-built seating in the pilot house are among the recent improvements.

This 50' Monk moves through the water with quiet grace and seemingly effortless speed, leaving little wake -- a design from the day when naval architects treated efficient movement through the water as paramount. This classic yacht is a real class act.

This boat is an active member of the Seattle Classic Yacht Association and has been boathouse-kept for at least the last 16 years. The boat house is also for sale. This boat is a "must see" for anyone considering a classic yacht.

Owner's personal items are not included in the sale. Specific exclusions include two oil lamps that may appear in photos or video.
