Skookum in a Northwest Native language means "Strong".
Skookum Marine located in Port Townsend Washington needed a name that would describe the quality and integrity of the fiberglass boats they were constructing so they chose the Indian word 'Skookum' which described the boat perfectly. Even though they are no longer in operation, Skookum has the enviable record of having built boats that were strong, safe, seaworthy vessels designed for service in the tough North Pacific waters off the coasts of Oregon, Washington and Alaska. They boasted that the hulls were virtually bulletproof. Most are still in service today and going strong. Designed by internationally known marine architects Ed Monk & Sons, each boat was designed for the work it was asked to do whether to go around the world, compete in a race or go to sea after a load of salmon, albacore or bottomfish. The interior and deck layouts were all custom designed and built so no two are alike, each pre-sold and designed to the customer's requests and needs. Only a few models were made into pleasure boats -- the rest were commercial fishing vessels. They were all built to stay at sea for extended periods of time with a minimum expenditure of high-priced fuel.

Board the vessel through the opening life line gate and step into the covered spacious center cockpit. The companionway opens into the very ample main salon with separate forward cabin and master aft stateroom. In the main salon is the very large workshop and engine room, with full standing headroom in each. The forward stateroom has the head. The aft stateroom is where the shower is located.
Amazing storage every where.
The cabins are very warm and dry, with no "boat smell".
A great live aboard and a proven world cruiser.....

Comentario del broker
This Skookum 47 Center Cockpit Ketch is being sold by its original owner -- a professional shipwright who commissioned its hull and personally completed its construction to suit the requirements of his long-range cruising plans. He subsequently enjoyed 25 years of cruising the South Pacific -- Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and many more destinations.
This motivated seller has priced her below market value.
Wood joinery interior is top notch. She's a fore and aft cabin layout with walk-in engine room. Headroom throughout is 6'8" or more. It's a motor sailor that is all cockpit operated. This boat is a very heavy and comfortable live aboard, and an exceptional world cruiser. Set up, tested and ready to spend extended periods at sea.
